ISLAMIC EXTREMISTS

I have forgotten why I did it but about 30-40 years ago I did some research on the subject of Islam and Jihad.

Essentially what I found in an encyclopedia was that the Koran (Quran) has the following to say about the subject of Jihad.

In the course of conducting a Jihad the Koran says:

  1. No woman or child shall be harmed or killed.
  2. No other Moslem shall be harmed or killed
  3. No building or structure shall be destroyed.
  4. No plant having at least one green leaf shall be harmed or destroyed.
  5. No soldier of an opposing army who has laid down his arms shall be harmed or killed.

The encyclopedia went on to say that there were two Moslem sects, Sunni and Shiite, whose version of the Koran differed from the mainstream in that their version said that when a Sunni or Shiite met a non-Moslem it was their duty to convert them to Islam, and if they could not then they were to coexist with the non-believer only until such time that they could be destroyed.

The Sunni and Shiite sects are two of the major Islamic sects in Iraq and probably explains why we see continuing terrorist attacks there.
